Wenger Advises Salah To Be Less Selfish

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has advised Liverpool’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah to be less selfish in front of goal if he is to take his game to the next level.

Salah made the headlines last weekend against Burnley when teammate Sadio Mane became enraged at his perceived ‘selfishness’ after the former Chelsea forward refused to pass to the Senegalese on a number of occasions.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp played down the situation after the game while vice-captain James Milner laughed off the incident on social media by suggesting Mane was only angry because he(Milner) was not brought on.

Wenger has however urged Salah to iron out those defects of his game by becoming more of a team player, just like Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

"He [Salah] has similarities with Messi," Wenger told beIN Sports. "He must find the consistency of Messi.

"I find he’s a good finisher but Messi has the complete thing, he gives the final ball as well.

"Salah is a bit obsessed with finishing himself.

"That’s a dimension he’ll get certainly, when he grows a little bit older, to find the moment when you have to give the ball and when you have to finish.

"But I like him very much, he has huge potential. Mane as well."

On the contrary, Wenger reserved special praise for Roberto Firmino, who was nominated for the Premier League player of the month on Friday, and is regarded by many to be the pivot of Liverpool’s fearsome front three.

He added: "But you forget a little bit the guy who sacrifices himself is Firmino.

"And like (Luis) Suarez did for Messi and Neymar, [Firmino] is the guy who works for the team, who works for everybody and gets them to shine.

"This piece of the jigsaw is always difficult to find, a striker who is generous."
